Reconstruction

When I was preparing for the reconstruction I Looked once again at some of the first Sci Fi films. I already had some knowledge from the Essay I did on the change in Science Fiction but also wanted to continue and look into the genre more to prepare for my FMP that may be under the genre combined with others.

Recreating some of the techniques used in those days would be very interesting as time has changed and similar movies today have a completely different approach threw technology.

Metropolis

Metropolis (1927) is a silent Drama/Sci-fi

Directed by Fritz Lang.

In a futuristic city, the most famous and remembered look about the film. With its look a bit like New York combined with flying vehicles and drones it does have this scary powerful look to it. The world sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son of the city's mastermind falls in love with a working class prophet who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences.

The films uses models and artwork to create the dramatic look of a futuristic city. Recreating this film would be a challenge but could be done.

The Thing

The Thing (1982) Mystery/Sci-fi

Directed by John Carpenter.

Its probably not remembered for being one of the best Sci-fi films of all time for its slightly Horror feel and mainly just for the competition of the genre at the time with films like ET incredibly popular. However it is a important film with its special effects being very good at the time. It does have a similar Horror Sci-fi vibe like alien to it. Probably seen just as a bit of a copy film of the genre at the time.

The story begins with a research team in Antarctica who get hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims.

ET (1982) Drama/Fantasy Sci-fi

Directed by Steven Spielberg

A film so big it upped the standard of the Sci-fi genre forever. It also inspired so many films. With the thing even being to similar to it.

A story of a troubled child who discovers a alien and summons the courage to help him escape Earth and return to his home world.

The film will forever go down as one of classics and all time greatest of not just Sci-fi but cinema.

Reconstructing a scene from this movie wouldn't exactly be easy as creating the look of an alien on earth wasn't even easy for the Hollywood studios.  However it would be a good challenge and understanding how one of the best Sci-fi  movies of all time was created would be fascinating.

How to remake a film scene

Before I decided what film scene or clip I wanted to recreate I looked at other examples. I looked at profession standard complete movie remakes and also no budget remakes to see how I could take on recreating a scene.
