Climate Change Campaign - Evaluation.

Summary of Research.

To end up with a campaign that young people of today would join and get involved with was my main aim when I started this project. This was because at the end of the day it is going to be our generation's job to try to save this planet. I researched how social media, the news and the media world spreads the message of climate change and how this changes the views of many and if young people in the Uk today really understand the truth of what is happening, and what needs to be done. The first organisation I researched was obviously going to be Extinction Rebellion, the talk and dominator of climate change being talked about online and on the news around the World right now. Extinction Rebellion grab all the headlines and get all there publicity with traditional way of protest: Strikes and disruptions, until there is change form the government.

I admired how big Extinction Rebellion had become within months. They had events taking place nearly everywhere around the World under their name. This is extremely hard to do but was done all through the online platforms and this is what I wanted my campaign to target. I wanted the campaign I was going to launch to do this exactly and quickly get picked up in the PR world, talked about on all platforms on social media and on the news headlines. This would be hard to do if it wasn’t through dramatic physical protests done like Extinction Rebellion, however I thought I could do this if my campaign focused on the point we are actually going to make a change. Extinction Rebellion have very powerfully and quickly become the biggest Climate Change organisation right now, but they haven’t really changed much. From the three policies they had as their aims, only one had actually been passed through Parliament by the leader of the opposition Labour Leader Jeramy Corbyn. This was to declare a climate Emergency. This is a big thing but only a very small step to some change actually happening.

In my research I also looked at many other climate change organisations and activists such as Friends of The Earth and The Climate Coalition. All these groups used different methods to try to get these problems with are planet into the media but had grown to the same scale as Extinction Rebellion had as they again all are not taking as extreme actions as Extinction Rebellion. From this further look into how to get noticed and into the media world, It looked hard to get my campaign known and talked about quickly when we are not following the path of those who cause disruptions and get disliked by many online to get coverage. Yes this is publicity but not in the right way as change needs to happen with my campaign.

Results from Questionnaires.

To get more of an understanding in what the younger generations think and believe about Climate Change we handed out questionnaires before we launched the campaign. This research included looking into what younger people know about Climate change. This was defiantly the case with all but one of the students in my questionnaire where 16-20 the age gap my campaign was targeting. The questionnaire then asked where they saw problems of Climate Change including social media, the news and so on. This was very helpful as the majority of students had seen Climate Changed talked about online, many disliking what Extinction Rebellion are doing as it is causing disruptions to them and their family. When asked If they would join my Campaign 60% said YES. This was a very good result as I was not expecting such a young audience to feel they need to take action In this way.

After researching a lot on how to get my Campaign known by younger people I made a promotional video that hopefully inspires many to join and help make a change to stop Climate change.
