What genre is the new Joker?
The new big hit movie 'Joker' (2019) quickly came to everyone attention and became one of the highest grossing movies within days of its release has many questions to it. Is it a superhero or villain movie? Or if not what genre does it fit under. So many genres can be said to appear in the film but here are some of the genres 'Joker' has been stated under mostly. Action, Drama, Adventure, Thriller, Psychological Thriller or Crime film.
Is Joker a Horror Film?
The main reason that 'Joker' could be considered a horror film is the dark and violent theme the film has. From the main character coming across as a mentally ill Serial Killer to the possible use dark comedy when the audience doesn't know to laugh or be scared in extremely violent scenes. This is a similar effect and style to films of Quentin Tarantino. This sort of style could however be called Dark Comedy in the mix with films that take the mick out of the horror genre.
A very good description of the movie and what genre its classed in was this:
"Joker comes across as violent, nihilistic horror film masquerading as both a character drama and a comic book movie.”

This description made a lot of sense as Director Todd Phillips has some very similar films that have a similar mood and feeling to this. The movies Maniac and Henry show this is a style possibly unique to the director.

Overall the joker film will go down as a unusual and unique styled film but most people will say the film has many genres combined and can be closed under many different genres but A Dark, Action, Horror is sort of best suited.
