Final Minimalist Film Posters

The Movie Poster I chose to recreate was the Joker. The film had just come out and I loved seeing it.  I took inspiration from all the other movie posters I had looked at in my research that had been recreated into minimalist designs. I also took inspiration from my research of artist Beau Bertens with a clean simple feeling design. I particularly liked the posters in my research which used one strong image, immediately recognisable as the main character in the film eg. The minimalist poster design for Superman featuring just a pair of Clark Kent's glasses. The existing poster for the film Joker was really strong and featured a great photo image of the Joker as well as steps and buildings, an important moment in the film was the character of Arthur becomes his true self which is the Joker, a turning point moment in the film.  Although I love this poster, I wanted to see if I could create something much simpler but equally eye catching.

I looked at many different Joker playing cards and these were a few different possibilities which I considered. The one I chose just seemed the correct shape for the spinning effect I wanted to create. In the Film Joker, the physicality of the character of the Joker is very important in terms of the way he moves and dances.  He does a special weird spinning dance quite often in the film.  I wanted to create a sense of movement in the design and I did this by using several images on top of each other, all slightly differently positioned.

I liked the font used on the standard Joker poster so I recreated it by making a cut running through the KER.

AVATAR 2

Once I had had the idea of the Joker poster, I was able to produce it quite fast so I decided to have a go at another film too

I made a minimalist version of the Avatar poster however I don't feel it was as successful as my Final Joker minimalist film poster because most of the Avatar posters are very simple anyway however I wanted to add a simple recognisable  logo instead of just a title. It did make me think more about the idea of using just a logo instead of a title and wonder about removing the word Joker from the playing card on my previous design.
